Knife Restoration [Black Blade, Zebrano Handle, Brass Liner]

In this video, I showcase the restoration of a heavily rusted knife that originally had no tang and was almost unusable. To save the knife, I first cut a piece of metal sheet and welded it to the blade to create a new tang. Next, I continued the restoration using a belt grinder: I removed all the rust and restored the original contours of the blade. Unfortunately, due to the knife’s severe damage, some pitting had to remain to avoid losing too much material. Afterward, I drilled two threads into the tang to hold the future pins in place. To enhance the surface, I etched the blade in iron(III) chloride, hoping to reveal beautiful patterns if the blade was forged. Additionally, I soaked the blade in instant coffee to intensify the etching effect. Although no visible patterns appeared, the etching still gave the blade a unique and aged look. For the handle, I used Zebrano wood, which stands out with its stunning grain. Between the wooden handle halves, I added a brass liner for an elegant finish. The pins for the handle were crafted on a lathe, and all components – the wooden scales, liner, pins, and blade – were glued together. Finally, the handle was shaped with files and sandpaper to make it ergonomically comfortable, oiled for protection, and the blade’s edge was sharpened to perfection.
