Kensington Palace Afternoon Tea - A Royal Treat at The Orangery

Join me as I experience one of London's most historic and elegant afternoon teas at The Orangery, Kensington Palace. Originally built in 1704–1705 for Queen Anne as a magnificent greenhouse for her prized orange trees, The Orangery has welcomed royalty and distinguished guests for more than 300 years. Today, it remains one of the capital's most beautiful places to enjoy a traditional afternoon tea. In this episode I'll show you everything that's included in the current afternoon tea, from the delicate finger sandwiches and freshly baked scones with Cornish clotted cream and preserve, to the beautiful seasonal cakes and pastries, including the famous Queen Victoria sponge, inspired by the monarch who was born and raised at Kensington Palace. But this video is about much more than the food. We'll also explore the remarkable history of Kensington Palace itself, home to generations of British royalty including Queen Anne, Queen Victoria, Princess Margaret, Princess Diana, and most recently Prince William and Kate Middleton who now Catherine, Princess of Wales. As part of this tea, I take a walk through one of the most beautiful parts of the palace grounds — the Sunken Garden, home to the Princess Diana Memorial Garden, where Diana's legacy continues to be celebrated in the place she called home for sixteen years.
