Raffaele Calace (1863-1934) Serenata Malinconica Op. 120 for mandolin and harp KhromaDuo Eugenio Palumbo, mandolin Anna Pilleroni, harp Serenata malinconica Op. 120, among Calace’s most sentimental compositions, reveals the expressive depth of his Romantic voice. The piece unfolds with tender lyricism, infused with an intimate melancholy that feels at once personal and universal, making it one of his most moving creations. For this recording, we chose to perform it with the harp. The decision arose naturally, as the writing itself echoes the idiomatic textures of the instrument. The harp’s luminous resonance and flowing arpeggios highlight the piece’s delicate poetry, allowing its nostalgic beauty to emerge with clarity and grace.
