About the album I feel truly happy and honored for my new collaboration with composer Nikos Harizanos on my new album 'Προμνησία / Promnesia'. It is the 3rd consecutive release with original works by composers (Nikos Xanthoulis, Garry Judd, Nikos Harizanos) for solo ancient Greek lyra in the last 7 months and completes the 1st cycle of the study I am conducting on the possibilities and extensions of this magical instrument. Nikos Harizanos is an internationally awarded composer with hundreds of works that are played by ensembles all over the world, a worthy artistic "descendant" of Iannis Xenakis as general secretary of the ΚΣΥΜΕ Contemporary Music Research Center, a man of unique kindness and sensitivity. After our collaborations on the works 'Cassandra op.273' released on CD, 'The Promise' performed live at the Greek Composers' Union, as well as on his book 'My Favourite Microtonal Scales' where I recorded all the accompanying material, we met again for the study and recording of Promnesia. The 5 original works that he composed and recorded explore a wide range of ideas, aesthetic trends and musical material that reposition the ancient Greek lyra at the forefront of original musical creation. The use of microtonal and diatonic systems, the special processing of the musical material, the combination with tape & electroacoustic soundscapes, the expanded techniques of playing the instrument that the works require, produce a result with personality and uniqueness. The aesthetics of the work is something that impressed me, surprised me, fascinated me - I was listening to contemporary and ancient music at the same time, with strong elements of interiority, disagreement, expression through the sound of an amorphous/untouched, its connection with man, conveying something unified and unchanging that is not subject to space-time. The entire process of my engagement with these works, from the beginning of my many months of study to their recording, was a real "school" on all levels - technical, aesthetic, sound - in order to achieve their essential performance. I wish to thank Nikos Harizanos for his trust and cooperation, I tried to approach his work with sensitivity and honesty. My warm thanks to my friend and collaborator Giotis Paraskevaidis for the - as always - impeccable cooperation, the help and artistic advice and suggestions, the organization, the care of the sound and the image. Thanks once again to the manufacturer of my handmade instruments Giorgos Nikas and Palmos Ancient Instruments for the wonderful and such high level of performance and quality instruments.
