Maik has already experienced quite a lot with his beloved motorcycle. The tour of a lifetime lasted over a year and covered 60,000 km. Shortly after the Corona crisis, Maik contacted us with a request to reinforce his frame. We gratefully accepted this commission! In our initial conversation, he told us about his long journey from Canada to South America. I listened intently to his stories. What this young world traveler accomplished is exactly what the GS riders who come into our shop day in and day out dream of. Of course, it would have made much more sense to carry out the modifications to the motorcycle before the big trip, but money is often tight, and you really have to choose between luxury and adventure. Looking at it that way, he certainly made the right decision again. In our video, Maik explains the various modifications to his expedition vehicle. His BMW R 100 GS motorcycle has already clocked up 120,000 km over the years. The boxer engine has managed this high mileage without any major repairs. Everyone knows that the strain of a trip like this, through cold Canada and later into hot South America, takes its toll on a two-valve engine. At this mileage, the valves and cylinder heads should at least be overhauled. Since the traveler plans to fix the leak in his engine soon, his cylinder heads will be sent to Üchtelhausen for a rebuild.
