BMW R80 G/S vs. BMW R12 G/S – 40 Jahre Entwicklung im Vergleich! | SWT-Sports - BMW Motorrad
In this video, I compare the 1980 BMW R80 G/S with the new BMW R12 G/S. The R80 G/S was BMW's first true adventure bike and laid the foundation for the GS series. How has the motorcycle evolved over 40 years? What technical changes have there been, and what has remained the same? *1. Engine and Performance:* The R80 G/S had an 800 cc boxer engine with 50 hp, which was more than sufficient for its time. The R12 G/S has a 1170 cc boxer engine with 109 hp—more than twice the power. This means faster acceleration and better handling, especially on and off-road. *2. Brakes and Chassis:* The R80 G/S had a simple braking system and a spaghetti fork. The R12 G/S features dual disc brakes and a more stable upside-down fork for greater safety and riding comfort, especially off-road. *3. Design and Electronics:* The design of the R12 G/S is more modern, with a more angular tank and LED lighting. Compared to the R80 G/S, which still featured carburetor technology and minimal electronics, the R12 offers advanced rider assistance systems, a fuel injection system, and a modern on-board computer. *4. Chassis and Geometry:* The seat height of the R80 G/S is 80 cm, while the R12 G/S is slightly higher at 87 cm. There is also a raised seat to optimize ergonomics for taller riders. The chassis of the R12 GS offers more stability and comfort thanks to its modern design, especially off-road. *5. Tank and Range:* The R80 G/S's tank holds 19 liters, while the R12 G/S only has 15 liters. Thanks to modern technology and efficient fuel consumption, the range should be similar. *6. Conversion Options and Value for Money:* The R12 G/S costs around €23,000, but offers state-of-the-art technology, safety, and comfort. For less money, you can convert a well-maintained R80 G/S, which is also an attractive option for many off-road enthusiasts. *Conclusion:* The R12 G/S offers a huge increase in performance and modern technology, making it an excellent motorcycle for today's adventures. Those who love the "charm" of the old R80 G/S will still have a lot of fun with it, especially thanks to the numerous conversion options. --- 🔔 *Subscribe to our channel* for more exciting comparisons and tips! 👍 *Like and share* if you enjoyed the video! 📲 Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok for more! #BMW #R80GS #R12GS #MotorcycleComparison #BMWMotorcycle #AdventureBike #MotorcycleTechnology #SWTsports #Offroad
