My desire to become a Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) official began in high school. I had the opportunity to participate in activities in the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake and the Airin district of Nishinari, where I saw my peers unable to pursue their desired career paths due to economic reasons. I also saw friends at Nada High School who, despite wanting to pursue research in physics and mathematics, became doctors due to fear of future poverty. Even in university, many of my incredibly funny comedy friends became salaried workers. On a micro level, their choices were responsible and should be respected as adults, but on a macro level, I intuitively felt it was very sad that talented young people with dreams were unable to pursue their desired careers due to economic reasons. I thought that if the country as a whole were wealthier, we might be able to increase the number of young people who have the courage to pursue their dreams, and that's why I joined METI, a ministry with a mission that almost perfectly matched my vision. Even after entering university and joining the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, working as a bureaucrat was a career path I could be truly satisfied with, a "dream." However, a completely different dream emerged: becoming a comedian, and this caused me considerable difficulty. Should I give up on being a comedian and dedicate myself to my work as a bureaucrat, striving to make Japan a place where future generations like me can become comedians, or should I pursue my dream of becoming a comedian, since life is only lived once? Ultimately, after four years of internal conflict, I chose the latter. I expect to receive various opinions on whether this choice was right or wrong, but the answer won't be clear for quite some time, depending on my efforts and results. Since I chose this path despite not being a genius, I believe I have no choice but to give it my all. I will work hard to become a comedian who can be supported by many people. Also, although I'm currently unemployed, I intend to work properly until I become successful, or even indefinitely if I don't. I believe I can contribute in some way to what I wanted to do at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, even from a private sector position, and I do enjoy my work to some extent, and I'm naturally anxious about the future. So, I'll eventually return to being an employed persona; please rest assured about that. I have no idea what the future holds for me, but I'm really looking forward to it. My naivety has allowed me to grow, and I believe I can continue to grow. It will be a long challenge, so please support me.
