Virtual Pinball Cabinet Monitors: the info you need
Episode#5 Custom Virtual Pinball Cabinet Build This video shows possible options for where to get your monitors, the specifications for your 3 monitors (playfield, back glass, and DMD) that are needed for virtual pinball, how to roughly set up/layout your monitors for a look at what it will look like in a cabinet (and so you can play for the first time!), and finally how to decase the monitors so they will fit into your cabinet. Monitors I show in this video: The playfield monitor is a Samsung LN46B750U1F and is a 46" 1080p monitor but looks amazing in game mode. Many hours of testing and I was quite impressed with it for vpinball. The 32" backglass is a Sharp LC-32D62U and the specs are just as good as the playfield, it would make a good playfield monitor for a mini build too. The full dmd monitor is a run of the mill 19" Dell 1908fpt monitor. The best thing about this video is that if you need specific help with a particular issue you are having, I have created timestamps so you can jump to the info you need and get yourself going waaaay faster. I found that I had to hunt down a lot of this information so I thought it would be good to have this resource for other people trying to figure it all out. 00:30 Where to get your monitors 01:58 What size playfield monitor should I get? 03:20 What is refresh rate and what refresh rate should I get? 05:12 What is response time and what response time should I look for? 06:59 What is viewing angle and what viewing angle should I get? 07:58 Example of viewing angle 08:11 Where does the rom folder go? 09:50 Back glass monitor required specifications 12:13 DMD (Dot Matrix Display) required specifications 13:24 Set up a mock layout to show/test what it could look like 17:35 Start decasing the playfield monitor 22:13 Measuring the playfield display dimensions for designing cabinet 23:10 Decasing the back glass monitor 29:14 Decasing the DMD monitor Once again, a special thank you to all of the members of the virtual pinball community who have created these wonderful programs, tables, front ends, and installers for everyone to enjoy!
