The car's mileage is approaching 240,000 km, and among other things, I have a reason to summarize its performance. The last time I analyzed the Niva's breakdowns and maintenance costs was at 220,000 km. Over the past 20,000 km, I've accumulated information on repairs and other expenses that I thought would be interesting to share. In the previous video, covering the 220,000 km miles, I discussed the car's breakdowns in considerable detail, so in this video I won't dwell on those breakdowns; I'll only cover the repairs that occurred later. I'll provide a link to the previous video in the description. So, what went wrong? At 222,005 km, the brake caliper on the front left wheel seized. The calipers needed replacing. Then I read online that calipers need to be serviced periodically to ensure a long, trouble-free life. But I didn't know this, and for the second time, I'm stuck with brake failure. They also replaced the master cylinder. Although, perhaps I shouldn't have done that, I decided brakes are no joke and replaced everything, including the brake pads. The brakes are now new. The brake discs were undamaged. Around the same time, the hood release cable broke. I panicked at first, but after removing the white plastic plug and hooking the protruding end of the cable with pliers, I was able to open the hood. I bought a reinforced, twisted cable as a replacement, which I inserted into the original cable housing. Everything works reliably now; this cable definitely won't break. Continuing with the theme of quality and reliability of spare parts sold on the market, the next problem concerns the thermostat. The original factory thermostat worked well for 217,000 km. Then it got stuck in the closed position. I replaced it with a Gates thermostat. In turn, this Gates lasted 9,000 km and successfully seized up at 226,000. This time I installed a Luzar. It works flawlessly. Then came the turn of the horn. The sound disappeared at 232,000 km. The stock horn seemed to have suffered quite a bit from corrosion. Thank goodness for lasting so long. I installed a Hoffer. By the way, I liked the sound. It's louder and shriller, more high-pitched than the factory one. Then the oil pressure sensor started leaking. At first, I was very worried. I thought the oil pump had died or the bearings had spun. But nothing changed in the engine's operation. I decided to change the sensor, and everything returned to normal. No reason to panic.
