As a follow-up to this topic, I'd like to conduct a comparative analysis of how much cheaper it is to maintain a more or less modern two-wheel drive vehicle versus a Niva, which turned 49 years old this year. To make the comparison more or less objective, I'll try to substantiate my calculations not only with a list of breakdowns, but also with a comparison of the cost of maintaining the vehicles per kilometer. I'd like to point out right away that this video shouldn't be taken as an absolute, but rather as a mental exercise in trying to evaluate my individual personal experience, expressed in monetary terms. This video will compare the Renault Sandero and Niva. This isn't my first video like this – I previously compared the cost of ownership of three cars: a Renault Sandero, a Volkswagen Polo, and a Niva. However, the Polo was sold with 100,000 km on the odometer and was excluded from the comparison. I owned the Sandero until it reached 199,000 km. The Niva currently has 230,000 km on the odometer, making it the first car I've owned with such high mileage. So, let's compare. The first car is a Renault Sandero, purchased in late May 2011 and sold in February 2016. It has a 16-valve engine, 103 horsepower, and a 4-speed automatic transmission. It has 200,000 km on the odometer. The second car is a Lada 4x4 Niva, purchased in mid-August 2019. It has 83 horsepower, a Luxury trim, and air conditioning. The comparison mileage is 200,000 km. Briefly, the comparison method is as follows: I calculated the cost of operating and repairing the cars over 200,000 km, adjusted this amount for inflation, and divided the resulting figure by the mileage. In other words, I calculated how much in current rubles each kilometer of the cars cost me. I'd also like to say a few words about accounting for inflation. As I mentioned earlier, the cars were purchased and operated at different times, so a direct comparison of expenses would be inappropriate. To bring the expenses to comparable values, I used the inflation rate.
