In this episode, I'm building a full shower equipped with a rain-head shower faucet, shower wand and fully pressurized hot running water. Before building the shower, I insulated the wall behind it with wool insulation. Next I framed the wall where I wanted to secure it to the metal shell of the cargo van itself. Then I used a combination of 1/4" an 1/2" plywood to make the three walls of the shower. I drilled a hole though the floor of the van for the drain of the shower. I then installed the shower pan and covered the cracks in the wall connections with flashing tape. The final step in water proofing was to roll on several coats of waterproof membrane onto the plywood walls. Once this was complete, I added PVC wall tiles to the plywood walls to give the aesthetic of a traditional shower. Plumbing: I used a 16 gallon fresh water tank to supply the water system that I installed. The water pump pressurizes the system and pulls water from the fresh water tank into an electric water heater and then the cold and hot water lines connect to the shower faucet. Drainage: I used aluminum brazing to make a sturdy frame for a gray water tank to be mounted underneath the van. I used rivnuts to attach the gray water tank frame to the solid metal frame of the vehicle. Then I connected the drain hose from the shower to the gray water tank and added a gravity powered spout for easy drainage of the gray water tank.
