Saying One Thing and Doing Anything

The plaintiffs say they moved into the defendant’s apartment and shortly afterward one of them lost a job. They claim the defendant agreed to let them pay rent late, but they were then served with eviction papers. They also allege the apartment was illegal and are suing for triple their security deposit. The defendant says the plaintiffs failed to pay rent, so he served them with notice to vacate. He claims they attempted to leave in the middle of the night while still owing rent.
