The city of Guaiçara, in the central-west region of São Paulo state, has just over 11,000 inhabitants. Most live in the city center, but the news that took the entire city by surprise came from the rural area: a femicide. Police found the body of cleaning lady Patrícia Rodrigues buried in her backyard after a report. Patrícia had a troubled relationship with Reinaldo, marked by aggression and possessiveness. Even with a restraining order, she maintained contact with Reinaldo, who had previously been arrested for assault. On the night of the crime, the couple was seen arguing at a gas station. Reinaldo fled to Lins, but was captured in Arapuá. The Domingo Espetacular production team obtained exclusive data through the Access to Information Law revealing the profile of femicide victims in São Paulo. In the last three years, there have been 744 cases and more than 1,800 attempted femicides throughout the state. In practice, every 10 hours, a woman suffers an attempted femicide. And one in three does not survive. Most victims are between 36 and 45 years old, and more than half are Black or mixed-race women. The most dangerous place continues to be inside the home: more than half of the crimes occurred in the victim's own residence.
