However, after actually purchasing and riding it, I found some parts that I thought were a no-no for me, so I'd like to introduce the parts I was forced to replace. Grips: Ergon-style Grips Next, the grips. The original ones are just a slightly stiff sponge, and I felt like they would wear out quickly. However, after riding a bit, I realized why people choose Ergon-style grips, which allow you to rest your palms on the grips rather than gripping them, since the K3's short wheelbase makes it a bit difficult to lean forward and tends to support your weight with your palms. I found a cheap replacement for this item on Yodobashi Camera's online store. I'm generally satisfied. 2. Tires: Big Apple 14-inch/2.00 Rakuten Market https://a.r10.to/h6mf1N Next, the tires. The stock tires were quite thin, 14-inch, and made of hard rubber, but they felt like they had almost no cushioning and were extremely bumpy, like riding on wooden carriage wheels. On a separate note, I was worried about a flat tire on long trips on the train, so I decided to keep a spare tire tube on hand. I searched online and at a local hardware store for a genuine-size tube, but it seemed to be a special size and I couldn't find one. I managed to find a genuine Dahon tube online, but it was too expensive and I didn't feel like purchasing it. So I decided to switch to the classic Big Apple. The fact that the 14-inch Big Apple 2.0 is easily available at hardware stores and online, along with major, affordable tubes like Panaracer, also contributed to my decision to switch to the Big Apple. The ride is much more comfortable. It feels a bit bumpier than a mamachari (Japanese-style bicycle), but I can now ride without worrying about uneven sidewalk joints. I used to think that the thinner the bicycle tire, the better, but I learned that there is an optimum tire thickness. I'm glad I replaced this one too. 2. Front Light, Rear Light This is a front light that came as a bonus with my purchase. Originally, there was a bracket for attaching it to the handlebars, but it interfered with the bike when folded, so I cut, bent, and drilled a hole in an aluminum plate to attach it to this part of the front fork. I just installed a cheap rear light I bought at a bicycle shop. 3. Mudguards, Asahi Bicycle, Generic, 14-inch Finally, Mudguards The day after I bought the K3, I took the train to lunch. There were a lot of meltwater and puddles, and riding without mudguards would be a bit tricky, so I bought some generic 14-inch mudguards to make the ride more comfortable. I think it's probably for a child's bike, but I bought it from the Asahi Bicycle online store. I created an attachment and bracket to fit the frame and attached it. The most difficult parts were adjusting the clearance between the tire and mudguard and preventing vibration. First of all, the front side is fixed in one place, so when I first attached it, it vibrated and made a resonating noise, so I sandwiched EVA sponge in the gap between the front fork and the front fender. The rear side was completely impossible to attach as it was, so I drilled out the original screw holes in the frame to make them loose, and then created some spacers and brackets through trial and error to get the clearance just right, and then fitted them to the actual bike to arrive at the current shape.
