Ostrów Tumski, Wrocław 🇵🇱 | The 10th-Century Heart of the City

Ostrów Tumski is the oldest historic part of Wrocław and one of the city’s most atmospheric places. Once a real island between branches of the Oder River, today it is known for peaceful streets, Gothic churches, historic bridges, and beautiful river views. In this walk, you will see Most Piaskowy from 1861, Most Tumski from 1889, the Church of St. Mary on the Sand, and the impressive Wrocław Cathedral with its 98-meter towers. The route also passes Cathedral Square, Kanonia Street, the Botanical Garden founded in 1811, and the Collegiate Church founded in 1288. Ostrów Tumski is especially magical in the evening, when its gas lamps are still lit by hand.
