Ghosts of Japan's Forests, Ghost Forests of Japan
In this video I climb a local mountain in search of four "ghost orchids" of Japan - plants that lack significant amounts of chlorophyll and rely on soil fungi for their carbohydrate nutrition. In the process I also wander into forests that have gone through cycles of change that to this point they have been able to endure. The situation today is different though, and some of these changes may be undermining their ability to survive into the future, hence their "ghost" status. Come along for a walk through these beautiful and beleaguered forests and see what biodiversity they yet retain.
