I took a tour of the Higienópolis neighborhood to visit the mansion of Carlos Leôncio de Magalhães, also known as Nhonho Magalhães, the richest coffee farmer who ever lived. The construction was completed in 1939, but Nhonho himself had already died during the construction of the mansion. His wife, Ernestina Reis Magalhães, and five of their eight children lived there for eleven years, until 1948. In 1974, the house was sold to the state of São Paulo and in 2005, the Pátio Higienópolis Shopping Center bought the property at a state government auction. It was restored for a decade and currently hosts events, such as the fair I visited in the video.
