The Family-Ness | The Scottish Cartoon with the Catchiest Theme Tune of the Eighties!

“🎵 You’ll never find a Nessie in the zoo… 🎵” Few children’s cartoons are as fondly remembered as The Family-Ness. Produced by European animation studio Studios Pannónia and first shown on BBC One in 1984, this charming series transported viewers to the shores of Loch Ness, where young Elspeth and Angus McToot could summon a family of friendly Nessies using their magical thistle whistles. Created by Peter Maddocks, the man behind Jimbo and the Jet-Set, the series introduced children to a colourful cast of lovable monsters, including Wee Robbie, Mr McToot and the laid-back giant known simply as Angus Ness. Packed with gentle adventures, Scottish humour and one of the most unforgettable theme tunes of the decade, The Family-Ness became a favourite with children across Britain.
