ISRAEL - Park Adulam 2, The Burgin Ruins פארק עדולם 2, חורבת בורגין

The Adulam park, this is where the young king David hid from the wrath of king Saul. The Hurvat Burgin ruins are part of four major archeological sites in the 50 square km Adulam Park, the others are the Adullam, Itri, and Madras ruins. *587 B.C. Jerusalem falls. King Zedekiah's refusal to pay tribute to the invading Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar II led to the siege and total destruction of Jerusalem, including king Solomon's holy temple built some 400 years earlier. The people of Judah were deported to Babylon where they lived in exile for around 50 years. *539 B.C. The Persian king 'Cyrus the great' takes over Babylon without a battle and frees the Jews from captivity along with the treasures plundered by the Babylonians from the holy temple. The people were to return to the Holy Land and rebuild the ruins of the Temple in Jerusalem. Because Jerusalem was in total destruction, many of the returnees settled in the Adulam area. During the Roman Period, Jewish rebels dug elaborate tunnels to hide and evade the Romans, this did not help their cause and in 70 A.D. the Romans destroyed the temple built by King Herod the great in Jerusalem. Both temples were destroyed on the 9th day of Av in the Hebrew calendar. Note: We had a wonderful hike but there was a small price to pay. When we returned we found that our car was broken into, two windows were smashed, hard earned accessories for my GoPro and drone were stolen together with other stuff including our travel food box. The culprits are the usual folk, we learned later that the parking ground is a favorite hangout for villagers living a few km's away.
