ISRAEL - Sumak burial Cave from Roman Period - חורבת סומק

Sumak Burial cave Last week we visited the Sumak Synagogue ruins but somehow missed the burial cave, so this time I got my learned friend Adam to come along and help find the cave (Zik came along too). On the way we stopped at the good town of Daliyat al-Carmel, visited the Saturday market and wiped some great Humus. Hidden deep in the southern part of Mount Carmel's forest is an archeological site with the ruins of an ancient Jewish settlement, going back to the Roman period some 2000 years ago. The Sumak ruins are just one of three such ancient Jewish settlements in the Carmel mountains. Found at the Sumak ruins are remains of a large Synagogue and some living quarters (see    • ISRAEL - Sumak Ruins, Synagogue from Roman...  , to the north about 200 meters is a burial cave with the Jewish Menorah (6+1 branches) carved at its entrance, a wine press, water collecting cisterns and a ritual bath pool.
