Two days in the Rain: Storm watching on Vancouver Island, part 1

After eight months in a new job on the other side of the continent, I'm back in my natural habitat, Vancouver Island. I've never been here quite this early, and really wanted to enjoy it in "storm watching" conditions. It's also quite a bit less expensive this time of year and much less crowded. This video is the first half of the trip, I'll post part two soon. 00:00 - 02:45 - Ferry ride 02:46 - 04:27 - Ferry docking 04:28 - 06:46 - Driving in the snow and a bit of a rant 06:47 - 08:49 - Taylor River Rest Area in the snow 08:50 - 11:52 - Middle Beach Lodge 11:53 - 27:14 - Good Morning! A new day and a walk in the rain 27:15 - 28:45 - Wrapping up 28:45 - 29:53 - Closing title --------------------------------------------------- LOCATIONS: BC Ferries Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay: The "classic" route from Vancouver to Nanaimo which was more convenient to me than the commercial route leaving from Tsawassen. Queen of Oak Bay feels like an old friend at this point. Highway 4 from Qualicum Beach to Tofino: It's even crazier in the winter when it's snowing! Taylor River Rest Area: Not the time of year for swimming, but beautiful nonetheless. Middle Beach Lodge: Multiple options on the cliffs overlooking Middle Beach and MacKenzie Beaches, south of Tofino. I stayed in the original “Lodge at the Beach.” The newer “Lodge at the Headlands” is a bit more luxurious, with a small restaurant and bar. There are also private cabins. $260 CAD for a simple room in storm watching season, much more expensive in the summer. https://middlebeach.com Pacific Rim National Park Reserve - Park pass required for parking at most beaches and other areas outside of town! https://parks.canada.ca/pn-np/bc/paci...
