PETITION OF THE LAY JUSTICE AND PEACE MOVEMENT IN AUSTRALIA - REGARDING THE PROBLEM OF FAITH OCCURRING IN THE VINH DIOCESE. To: -Archbishop Joseph Nguyen Nang, President of the Vietnamese Bishops' Conference. -Bishop Alphonsus Nguyen Huu Long (Vinh Diocese) We, the Vietnamese Catholic laypeople in the Justice and Peace Movement in Australia, are deeply concerned about the developments surrounding Bishop Alphonsus Nguyen Huu Long's consideration of applying canonical penalties to Father Anton Dang Huu Nam. Although the Bishop has given sufficient reasons to establish a hearing, the Justice and Peace Movement in Australia believes that: Any punishment imposed on Father Anton Dang Huu Nam cannot convince public opinion that Bishop Alphonsus acted justly.
