Hannah Yeoh wins defamation suit, lecturer ordered to pay RM400k in damages

Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) lecturer Kamarul Zaman Yusoff has been ordered to pay RM400,000 in damages to Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh. The Kuala Lumpur High Court’s decision was in relation to Kamarul’s Facebook posts in 2017, which defamed the DAP lawmaker. Judge Aliza Sulaiman awarded the sum as general and aggravated damages - RM200,000 for each defamatory post. The court also ordered Kamarul to pay RM80,000 in legal costs.
