Wie man einen Fensterladen schreinert | SWR Handwerkskunst

Handmade shutters made of solid wood are Fabio and Alex Hupfaufs specialty. For a old school building in Welzheim, they are carpentering 52 new shutters that should be as similar as possible to the originals. The first step takes place in the sawmill. Here, the two brothers look for the planks that meet their requirements: the wood should have standing annual rings, be as knot-free as possible, and be sufficiently wide. After all, what follows is supposed to last 100 years: Without dowels, screws, or nails, and worked precisely to size, the shutters complete the face of the house. Later, when sun and rain, cold and heat get to them, they must not warp and no slat must rattle. This is the art of the two brothers, for which they are appreciated by monument authorities and architects.
