The first scenes were shown in the official Switch trailer in October 2016, but the official unveiling of Mario's next big 3D adventure didn't take place until January 2017 during the major Nintendo Switch reveal event. At this event, it was made clear that Super Mario Odyssey aimed to return to the roots of 3D Mario games, focusing on sandbox-style levels that would appeal to both casual players with simple missions and veterans with more challenging challenges. Despite the absence of a hub world, the game is thus more reminiscent of the beloved classics "Super Mario 64" and "Super Mario Sunshine." However, the developers didn't just draw on elements from these two milestones, but also from more recent video games like "Super Mario 3D World" and "Super Mario Galaxy." Overall, Odyssey aimed to create a kind of "Best Of 3D Mario" while simultaneously introducing many exciting new ideas. Perhaps the most essential feature: "Cappy," who accompanies you around the world on your hunt for Bowser, who wants to marry Princess Peach against her will. Cappy has the ability to "capture" enemies and certain objects, thus taking possession of them. For example, you can control a Goomba or drive a Mario shell. Accompanied by the usual fantastic soundtrack, Mario's world tour could very well become his best adventure yet. The grand journey begins on October 27, 2017, when Mario's latest escapade is released for the Nintendo Switch.
