The Korea Forest Service selected "30 Beautiful Private Gardens" through a public online preference survey and on-site evaluations by experts, including Goheung Ssukseom Ssukseom, Haenam Moon Garden, Goesan Tree House, and Jeju Saenggak Garden. Iksan Agape Garden was selected as a unique garden, along with Tongyeong Dongbaek Coffee Botanical Garden, Jeongeup Wildflower Garden, Jeju Saenggak Garden, Ulju Greenhouse Rium, and Gurye Thousand Juniper Tree Forest Garden. "Private gardens" are gardens lovingly maintained by corporations, organizations, or individuals, and are open to the public. There are approximately 150 such gardens operating nationwide. Agape Garden, the fourth private garden in Jeollabuk-do, boasts 17 species of trees and 1,416 species registered, including metasequoia, Japanese pine, and Japanese maple. In 1970, Father Seo Jeong-su established the Agape Nursing Home, a senior welfare facility, and created a nature-friendly tree garden to ensure the health and happiness of its residents in their later years. The garden itself, a well-maintained, evergreen forest reminiscent of an arboretum, was registered as a private garden in March 2021. After renovations, it was reborn as a public rest area. Each season, a beautiful display of flowers like daffodils, tulips, magnolias, and poppies unfolds. The soaring metasequoia trees form a striking hedge along the walking path, creating a striking backdrop.
