All indications point to the collision occurring at 7:43 p.m., coinciding with a voltage drop on the network. Two minutes later, the Iryo train driver reported a "catch," believing it to be a problem with the overhead power lines. However, it wasn't until 7:48 p.m. that the Atocha control center, after being unable to contact the Alvia train driver, who had died in the accident, managed to speak with the train's conductor. The conversation with the Alvia conductor revealed the existence of injuries, although the cause was not clarified. "I have blood on my head," the employee stated, a declaration that, as discussed on the program hosted by José Luis Pérez, was followed by a question from the operator about the condition of the train. While this call was taking place, the Iryo train driver made contact again, this time with crucial information that still didn't allow the complete picture to be pieced together. The forensic expert Javier Alcalde shed light on the main question: why didn't anyone see the crash? The explanation lies in the fact that the tracking system "is not like a GPS positioning system." The infrastructure relies on beacons located every 700 meters at intervals of over 2 kilometers, so the control panel only displays an "occupancy in that section of track" with a red dot, without specifying whether the train is stopped due to a breakdown or an accident. Furthermore, the expert highlighted that the increase in rail traffic and the greater weight of the new Ouigo and Iryo trains "place much greater stress on the infrastructure."
