At 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, the Iryo 6189 train, which had departed from Málaga bound for Madrid with more than 300 passengers on board, veered onto the adjacent track. The Alvia 2384 Madrid-Huelva train, carrying 184 passengers, was traveling on that track. The Alvia attempted to brake, but its front end collided with Iryo carriages that were on the track due to a derailment. Today in El País, Ana Fuentes interviews Marta Blanco, 30, a doctor at a Madrid hospital, who was traveling in carriage 1 of the Iryo.
