La Divina Comedia se queda corta ante lo que vivió RD tras la muerte de Trujillo
Historian and president of the Dominican Academy of History, Juan Daniel Balcácer, said that Dante's portrayal in the Divine Comedy is a kind of comic book when compared to the tragedy Dominicans experienced after June 1961, when Ramfis Trujillo personally took revenge against the heroes who plotted to overthrow the dictatorship. He explained that the conspirators to overthrow Trujillo, who did not know each other, with a few exceptions, were 25 people, of whom only 6 or 7 survived, but that 14 were killed by the dictatorship. Some of the children and other relatives of the heroes of May 30 were also murdered, and the women were abused, assaulted, and trampled. He explained that the main torturers and criminals involved in the events beginning in June 1961, in addition to Ramfis Trujillo, were Roberto Figueroa Carrión and Jonny Abbes García, who engaged in torture and looting the homes where the heroes and their families lived. Among those murdered were teenagers who had nothing to do with politics or the planning of the dictatorship's overthrow. The way the tyrannicides were discovered was easy because one person, Pedro Livio Cedeño, was injured and had to be taken to a clinic. A pistol belonging to Juan Tomás Díaz, Salvador Estrella Sadhalá's car, and Trujillo's own vehicle were found at the scene of the tyrannicide. The dictator's driver, Zacarías de la Cruz, went to the Marion Medical Center and provided information about the beast's death. General Arturo Espaillat, who was in El Pony, saw the tyrant's car and then other vehicles pass by. It is said he heard gunshots and went to the home of the head of the Armed Forces, Puso Román. This acted as an impediment to the execution of the second phase of the plan, which was a coup d'état and the establishment of a provisional civilian government. The second phase of the plan also called for the elimination of any comrade who could not fend for themselves if wounded; the execution of the tyrant's brothers, with the exception of Héctor Trujillo; the deportation of the dictator's sisters and other relatives; the proclamation of Juan Tomás Díaz as head of the Armed Forces for no more than six months; the establishment of a civilian Government Junta; the arrest of officials of the dictatorship and the execution of henchmen; the closing of the border with Haiti; the declaration of the companies and wealth held by the dictator and his family as state property; and the cutting off of telecommunications and radio stations, or the occupation of them and placing them at the service of the new authorities. Juan Daniel Balcácer said that Juan Bosch did nothing to prosecute the Trujillo forces and criminals because he came to power with the slogan "clean slate," and there the bad and the good were combined, and because the Trujillo supporters supported that candidacy to avoid Viriato Fiallo. He declared that it is not too late to establish a Truth Commission, in light of the crimes that were committed, because family members and direct descendants of the victims remain. There was no reconciliation here, but no one demanded justice either. He explained that any attempt to vindicate the Trujillo regime is unsuccessful and "goes nowhere," because the Dominican people "got used to living in a democracy, with public liberties, freedom of expression, without causing offense." He also said that the freedom we experience in Dominican society "is due to the feat of the heroes of May 30."
