The Beatles 'I Call Your Name' An Electrifying Big-Beat 2026 Remix #thebeatles

“Electrifying big-beat performances by England’s Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.” Capitol Records couldn’t have said it any better when they printed those words on the cover of America’s The Beatles’ Second Album in 1964. “I Call Your Name” appeared as the second track on side two, perfectly sandwiched between “Long Tall Sally” and “Please Mr. Postman.” This new 2026 remix brings out the incredible energy that was sometimes masked by the mixing practices of that era. Those lucky enough to witness The Beatles performing live on stage have said they had no idea just how big a sound the group projected. I agree with that observation as I have personally witnessed how powerful Paul McCartney’s driving bass locked in so tightly with Ringo Starr’s drums. That is the heart of this remix: moving the drums and bass from the left channel, as presented in the original stereo mix, to the center. George Harrison’s electrifying 12-string Rickenbacker lead guitar has also been brought to the center, further enhancing the balance and impact of the track. Rounding out the rest of the mix, John Lennon’s energizing rhythm guitar now occupies a much wider soundstage. Aside from these placement changes, the only other modifications were slight equalization adjustments, allowing all of the newly positioned elements to blend more fully and work together with greater power. Recording for “I Call Your Name” began on March 1, 1964, in EMI’s Studio Two at Abbey Road Studios. It was The Beatles’ first-ever Sunday recording session. They recorded seven takes of the song shortly after completing “Long Tall Sally” in just one take. Neither song appeared on their core British album catalog, but both were released in the UK on an EP issued on June 19, 1964. “I Call Your Name” was originally written for Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas, another Brian Epstein-managed group, in 1963. The song was written mainly by John Lennon, but since it carried the Lennon-McCartney credit, John felt The Beatles might as well try recording it themselves. The best overall performance was take seven, but George’s best guitar solo came from take five, so his solo was edited into take seven during the mixing stage. In America, Capitol Records chose to include “I Call Your Name” on The Beatles’ Second Album, a strong compilation of Beatle rockers, since EPs simply didn’t sell in the American market the way they did in Britain. The album was released on April 10, 1964, and after its second week, it replaced Meet The Beatles! at the top of the chart, where it remained for five weeks. As always, thanks so much for listening!
