Stal Stalowa Wola spent a total of four years in the top flight. Stalówka first reached the second tier in 1973, led by coach Jerzy Kopa. At that time, no one expected Stal to spend 14 consecutive seasons in the second division. Moreover, in 1987, the opportunity arose for the team managed by Władysław Szaryński to advance to the elite division. His team finished second in the eastern group of the second division and later won a playoff against Górnik Knurów. Unfortunately for the Stalowa Wola fans, their favorites spent only one season in the first division (Ekstraklasa). A similar story unfolded in the 1991/92 season, when Stal was also relegated after a year. Only at their third attempt did Stalówka stay in the first division for a slightly longer period, lasting two years. Among the club's greatest legends are Mieczysław Ożóg and Dariusz Sajdak.
