In this episode, we kick off day two at the historic Deutsches Eck in Koblenz, where the "Father Rhine" and "Mother Moselle" rivers meet. Founded by the Romans around 9 BC, Koblenz is a city steeped in history, and we start our morning overlooking the massive Ehrenbreitstein Fortress and the monument to Kaiser Wilhelm. From there, it’s a "running and gunning" ride down the Moselle River valley, famous for its winding roads and steep vineyards. Our destination? The incredible Burg Eltz (Eltz Castle). Tucked away in a lush valley, this medieval masterpiece is one of the few castles in the Eifel region that has never been destroyed. It has been owned by the same family for over 700 years! We take the "Randy hiking option" down to the castle, explore the treasury, and enjoy a traditional castle lunch (accidentally ordering two brats—no complaints here!). Along the way, we take a spontaneous detour through the town of Münstermaifeld to see the 900-year-old St. Martin’s Church, built on ancient Roman foundations.
