We Built a Paint Booth…Then Hung a Brand-New Engine
We are back on the experimental Hummingbird four-seat helicopter build, and this week we are going full body shop mode. We set up a DIY paint booth right here in the shop to lay down the PPG epoxy primer and the custom Blue and Silver paint scheme. It took about 200 hours of prep, taping, and sanding to get this right, but the results speak for themselves. Once the paint cured, we moved on to the mechanical heavy lifting. We installed the main rotor head (including the Jesus nut) and finally unboxed the heart of the beast: a brand new Lycoming IO-540 engine. 0:00 Intro & Build Update 3:01 DIY Paint Booth Setup 4:05 Spraying Primer & Paint 8:47 The Reveal (Silver & Blue) 11:22 Painting The Small Parts 15:20 Tape Job & Prep Work 20:48 Unmasking The Paint Scheme 28:36 Correcting Paint Mistakes 31:40 Installing The Main Rotor Head 35:55 The Lycoming IO-540 Reveal 37:47 Mounting The Engine 41:25 Summary & What’s Next For more in depth videos on the Heli visit our Patreon channel Patreon.com/CCEQUIP #HelicopterBuild #Lycoming #DIYMechanic #Aviation
