ANTONIO GRAMSCI - La bataille des idées

🎓 In this fifth episode of Powers, we explore the life of Antonio Gramsci, the Italian Marxist thinker, communist activist, imprisoned by Mussolini's fascist regime, and author of the famous Prison Notebooks. Why do the oppressed often accept the order that dominates them? How does a social class manage to pass off its particular interests as the general interest? And why is power also gained through ideas, culture, education, the media, language, and common sense? For Gramsci, power is not limited to the state, the police, or institutions. It also rests on hegemony, that is, the ability of a social group to have its worldview accepted as natural, legitimate, and self-evident. This episode looks back at his life, from Sardinia to Turin, from his involvement in the labor movement to his arrest by fascism, before exploring his key concepts: hegemony, civil society, war of position, the modern prince, and organic intellectuals. ---------------------------------- 👨🏻‍🏫 Who is Thérence Carvalho?
