TESLA is NOT the Only Option... These EVs Might Surprise You

After living with my Tesla Model 3 Performance for nearly two years — and loving every minute of it — I thought it was finally time to look at the competition and see if anything comes close. After almost a year of pointing cameras at cars, badly, the SMMT somehow seem to think I’m now a journalist… so they invited me to their annual Millbrook Proving Ground Media Test Day 2026. They must be mad. After recently calling the BMW iX3 “floaty”, I now put that to the test by driving it hard around a purpose-built track designed to test all kinds of handling characteristics. Then, to see how it stacks up, I compare it against the XPeng G6 AWD Performance. Can EVs actually be fun? To find out, I try the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N — which feels absolutely incredible — followed by the Abarth 600e Scorpionissima, with 250bhp of front-wheel-drive craziness. I also have the luxury of seeing the Genesis GV60 Magma and Denza Z9 GT in the flesh for the first time...wow!
