Sivas'ta 'Kafkas Kartalı' Şeyh Şamil'in büstü açıldı
The unveiling of a bust of Sheikh Shamil, known as the "Eagle of the Caucasus," in the garden of the Sheikh Shamil Health, Culture and Sports Center took place as part of the North Caucasus Culture and Arts Festival organized by Sivas Municipality. The North Caucasus Culture and Arts Festival, organized by Sivas Municipality with the contributions of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, has begun. As part of the two-day festival, the bust of Sheikh Shamil in the garden of the Sheikh Shamil Health, Culture and Sports Center was unveiled. The opening ceremony was attended by Mayor Adem Uzun, the President of the Dagestan Education, Culture and Solidarity Association Yaşar Öz, the President of the Sivas North Caucasus Culture Association Fatih Özdemir, guests from abroad, and citizens. 'WHEN YOU SAY CAUCASUS, SHEIKH SHAMIL COMES TO MIND' Speaking at the opening, Mayor Adem Uzun said, “When you say Caucasus, one of the first names that comes to mind is Sheikh Shamil, also known as Imam Shamil. We are witnessing that the struggle for freedom and independence that Sheikh Shamil waged is truly appreciated all over the world today, despite the many years that have passed. In fact, Sheikh Shamil is one of the most important figures and role models for many young people in Turkey. I would like to express my great pleasure in unveiling his bust in this neighborhood. In the Caucasus, Sheikh Shamil comes to mind. When you go to the Balkans, Alija Izetbegović comes to mind. His struggle for freedom and independence, his stance, his character, his personality are still remembered with respect in the Turkish-Islamic geography.” Yaşar Öz, the president of the Dagestan Education, Culture and Solidarity Association, said, “We had a goal. It wasn't to worship Sheikh Shamil, but to ensure he was known everywhere, to explain who he was, his struggle, and his cause. We did our best. Our president paved the way for us. Opening a bust in such a beautiful neighborhood, in such a beautiful area, is truly a source of pride. I thank everyone who contributed.” As part of the two-day festival, an exhibition will open tomorrow in the garden of the Atatürk and Congress Museum, followed by a performance by the Dagestan State Folk Dance Ensemble.
