As a final result, I can now present to you the 5 factors that most strongly influence our health, both positively and negatively. The results of this study are astonishing at first glance, and the closer you look, the more impressive the observations become. During the course of the study, participants received a health score based on the 5 influencing factors. To demonstrate the difference between the individual scores, a comparison of disease-free time is actually sufficient. Assuming an average 50-year-old, a good health score in the study promises approximately 30-35 healthy years without chronic diseases such as 1) cancer, 2) type 2 diabetes, or 3) cardiovascular disease. Factor #1: Nutrition Rarely has "you are what you eat" been as unconditionally true as it is here. The study was based on the Alternate Healthy Eating Index, which examines every food for its health-promoting and harmful ingredients. This results in a point system that rewards fruits and vegetables, whole grain products, dairy products, and protein-rich foods with particularly high points. Factor #2: Smoking Factor 2 of the study concerns smoking. Here, the researchers took a very restrictive approach and only awarded points to participants who had never smoked in their lives. Smoking is incredibly harmful to our organs, promotes the development of numerous types of cancer, and is therefore one of the main factors for a shorter life expectancy. Factor #3: Exercise Now we come to a point that has multiple effects and should therefore not be underestimated. Exercise helps our bodies in so many different ways, and this study shows how easy it is to achieve success. While the study is strict on smoking, it shows that just 30 minutes of exercise a day is enough to maintain the positive long-term effects. Factor #4: Obesity The study identified type 2 diabetes as the single largest influencing factor for shortening lifespan. And this is entirely justified, considering that diabetes rarely comes out of nowhere. Obesity also increases the risk of 1) atherosclerosis, 2) respiratory problems, and many 3) cardiovascular diseases. Factor #5: Alcohol So, the last factor to be taken into account is alcohol consumption. This assumes moderate alcohol consumption, between 5-30g per day. 30g of pure alcohol is about the equivalent of two bottles of beer. Anything above this inevitably leads to a reduced life expectancy or earlier illnesses.
