SKIN CARE TIPS- Laser Resurfacing Laser resurfacing can be used to rejuvenate skin, remove sun damage, wrinkles, treat pores, acne scars and skin pigmentation. The future of laser resurfacing is to combine several wavelengths of laser in the one delivery system. This is known as Hybrid or Mixed Technology laser resurfacing. Of all the systems tested, I firmly believe that Quanta has the best software of any laser company. This is because every aspect of this laser can be customized and controlled by the operator. What this means is that bespoke treatments can be delivered to each patient. Power, pulse duration, sequence of laser delivery, density, patterning, stacking and many more variables can be controlled. This is a laser built for laser specialists! YOULASER enables bespoke settings to deliver the best clinical outcomes with each treatment. Every single skin type can be treated with this laser- from fair skin Type 1 all the way to African type 6 skin. The biggest flaw of this laser is the peak power of the CO2 component. It is weak at only 30 watts. The brilliant software of Quanta Systems gets around this by increasing the pulse duration, or by pulse stacking. Great for treatment of burns, but less than ideal for treating fibrotic scars in darker skin types. The use of this laser in burn scarring was demonstrated by Rox Anderson in another video, thanking the generosity of Quanta for donating this laser for the greater good. Unlike fractional lasers such as Fraxel, ProFractional, Portrait, Pixel, CORE, Ultrapulse, Active FX, Edge CO2 fractional and dozens of other fractional lasers, only the HALO and YOULASER deliver two wavelengths in the one treatment. The fully ablative laser resurfacing removes all layers of skin, whist the non-ablative component treats under the skin, preserving the upper layers. HALO uses erbium, whilst YOULASER has CO2 as the ablative wavelength. IMO this laser is far superior to HALO laser. I am a big fan of Scition lasers the markers of HALO, but this laser walks all over HALO. The marketing division of HALO has done a great job of pushing this laser however the software and wavelength of CO2 in the YOULASER is a few generations ahead of HALO. Fully ablative laser resurfacing is very different from fractional lasers. Fractional lasers only treat a ‘fraction’ of the skin’s surface – laser machines such as Fraxel, Pearl Fractional, and ProFractional are examples of fractional lasers. Fully ablative lasers remove the entire surface area of the skin. I manually control the depth of ‘ablation’ and how deep the lasers go. Fractional lasers usually require multiple treatments, usually 3-5 sessions, whilst laser resurfacing using fully ablative lasers will only require one treatment. In this video I have demonstrated that only one treatment of fractional laser is required if the parameters are dialed correctly for each individual. With the YOULASER combinations are infinite, and each part of the face will require different settings for optimal results. If this laser had more power, it would be as close to a perfect laser in the real world. I still prefer my high density Fraxel 1927 laser for treating sun damage in Brisbane as it cover more surface area. The downside is that downtime is double with Fraxel approaching 6 days, whilst the YOULASER recovery is only 3 days. As for acne scarring- one needs dedicated lasers for the treatment of severe scars, and the Ultrapulse is the Gold Standard for subdermal fibrosis and burns. Increasing the pulse duration of the YOULASER can get the power needed, but this gives prolonged gridding, not ideal. Laser resurfacing is only one of the many techniques I practice to achieve the end goal- whether it involves skin rejuvenation, wrinkle removal, eye rejuvenation, or acne scar revision. Remember, it is the method and not the machine that delivers the best results. The balance of skin texture, tone, and volume will give the most natural results. Treatments such as skin needling, microneedling, PRP, Juvederm, Restylane fillers, Botox, and skin boosters can also augment the end results after laser resurfacing. The future looks bright with lasers like the YOULASER with advanced software and dual wavelengths. Work on more power, and Quanta can rebrand it as PERFECTLASER.
