Swapping an Anti-Aircraft Gun for a BBQ - Renovating Tynemouth Watchtower: Level 7
We’re starting at the very top 🏰🔝 Welcome to Episode 1. For our first deep dive, we’re heading straight to Level 7—the crown jewel of the Watchtower. This floor is split into two incredible spaces: the Roof Terrace and the Observatory. PAST ⚔️ Level 7 has seen some serious action over the last 110 years. During WWI, we believe a timber building sat atop the tower, and by WWII, it was home to an anti-aircraft gun. Meanwhile, the Observatory at the front was the lookout point where servicemen spent hours scanning the North Sea horizon for enemy craft with binoculars. 📡🕵️♂️ PRESENT 🏚️ Right now, the reality is a bit different. The Observatory is completely derelict, having gone unused for 25 years. It’s a shell of its former self. Out on the roof terrace, the space is incredibly awkward—there are so many changing levels that it's currently impossible to put a table out or sit comfortably as a group. It’s a total logistical puzzle. FUTURE ☕️ We are transforming these spaces for modern family life. We’re swapping the anti-aircraft gun for a fantastic entertaining space, complete with an outdoor kitchen and BBQ. Inside the old Observatory, we’re swapping binoculars for monitors. This derelict lookout will become our Home Office, featuring a sit-stand desk and a much-needed coffee station—all with the best view in Tynemouth. 0:00 Intro: Welcome to Level 7 0:08 The Past: What was the Watchtower built for? 9:05 The Present: How the tower is now 15:43 The Future: Our plans for the renovation Subscribe to follow the journey every Sunday! 📡 Watch the 24/7 Live 4K Webcams here: https://www.youtube.com/live/p2ZG8xnL... #OurTowerHome #WatchtowerRestoration #Tynemouth #History #Architecture #HomeOffice #RoofTerrace #GrandDesigns #NorthSea #WWI #WWII #RenovationLife
