Minister André Mendonça (pictured) publicly defended the investigation into the Banco Master scandal during a hearing of the Second Panel of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) that upheld the preventive detentions of Henrique and Felipe Vorcaro, respectively father and cousin of Daniel Vorcaro, the owner of the financial institution liquidated amidst suspicions of fraud. The defense was made in response to suspicions raised by another minister, the senior member Gilmar Mendes (in the background of the photo), who presides over the Second Panel and reiterated his criticisms of Operation Lava Jato. Gilmar had requested a review of the case and returned it for a vote with a statement that took up more than half of the 2-hour and 40-minute session, with a lengthy digression on what he considers abuses by Lava Jato, which he used to criticize the leaking of intimate conversations and suggest that those investigated in Operation Compliance Zero were being pressured to sign plea bargain agreements.
