CAN YOU BUILD STRENGTH WITH THE INDOOR ROWER?
Strength is the maximum force a muscle or muscle group can generate. Power is the rate at which work is produced, which means power has a time component to it. Power is a critical component of performance in the sport of rowing, both on the water and off of it. Strength cannot be effectively developed on the indoor rower, and cannot be developed at all if an athlete is already well trained. To develop strength most effectively, you need to accumulate repetitions at or near your 1 rep max using barbells or dumbbells. In this video I talk about the difference between the two and discuss some effective and non-effective strategies I have used over the years for developing power on the indoor rower.
