TOP SECRET Mechanics That Only End-Game Players Know In The Last Caretaker
In this The Last Caretaker essential tips and hidden mechanics video, I explain a few important systems that many new players may not notice at first. These mechanics can seriously affect your ship build, cable management, power production, fuel transfer, resource logistics, and even how you move heavy materials around the world. The first major tip is about cable and pipe capacity. Power cables and liquid pipes have transfer limits, and if you connect too many systems through one line, that line can become overloaded. For liquids, pipes have a maximum transfer rate, which means diesel, petrol, oil, or water may move slower if too many machines are using the same grid. For power, one line also has a maximum output, so if you connect too many turbines, solar panels, or batteries through a single cable, you may not get the full production value. I also explain the difference between using one large grid and using separated grids or sockets. My ship uses one main grid for each resource type because I prefer simplicity, but this has drawbacks. For example, my distillation tower uses the same liquid network for both oil input and diesel/petrol output, which can slow the system down. A cleaner build with separate input and output lines would be more efficient. The second important tip is about power generation after the weather update. Solar panels are still usable, but storms and wind turbines have changed the game. Typhoon turbines can generate a huge amount of energy during storms, so the better strategy now is not filling your ship with endless turbines, but using a smaller number of turbines with a larger battery bank. Storms happen often enough that storing power has become more important than constant solar generation. If you are using many turbines, I recommend grouping them in smaller packages instead of forcing everything through one cable. This helps avoid transfer limits and makes sure more of the generated power actually reaches your batteries. The final hidden mechanic is the weight system. When your inventory is overloaded, your robot moves slower and uses more energy. But when you enter a vehicle, including the ship, helicopter, jet ski, Tide Ripper, or underwater jet, the weight penalty no longer matters. This means you can move huge amounts of resources by loading everything into your inventory and then using a vehicle to travel. These tips are especially useful for late-game players who are rebuilding ships, moving bases, managing fuel systems, setting up power grids, or preparing for future updates. Small mechanics like cable limits, storage buffers, turbine grouping, and vehicle weight behavior can make a huge difference once your build becomes large.
