In this The Last Caretaker New Horizons update video, I test the new Recovery Grinder and explain what this machine actually does, what materials it gives back, and why it may need a buff. Right now, the Recovery Grinder can be useful, but the energy cost, noise, and output values make it feel weaker than it should be unless you build a proper recycling loop around it. I go over the recycling results from several materials, including copper, iron, glass, bioorganic material, plastic, polyethylene, silicone, and carbon fiber. The most interesting material is carbon fiber because 100 carbon fiber can become oil and a large amount of plastic, which can then be recycled again into more oil. This makes carbon fiber one of the best materials to use with the Recovery Grinder. The main idea of this video is building a ship-based resource loop. Carbon dioxide from the ship can be turned into carbon fiber, carbon fiber can be recycled into plastic and oil, plastic can be recycled into more oil, and that oil can be sent into the distillation system. This creates a self-supporting recycling chain that can help keep the ship running longer without constantly returning to refuel. I also talk about how the Veil and the Recovery Grinder work better together than they do alone. The Veil brings oil from the seabed, while the Recovery Grinder helps turn extra materials and plastic into more fuel resources. With the distillation tower nerfed, this kind of system becomes much more important for long-term travel, missions, and future ship builds. This video is also a preview of my next major ship build. I removed my old solar panels, added more batteries, started redesigning the ship infrastructure, and began preparing the boat to become a mobile factory. The Recovery Grinder may look weak on its own, but with the right loop, it could become one of the most important machines in the new patch.
