I ordered the Chicken Bacon Ranch, BBQ Chicken, and Mac and Cheese slices, and the cashier also tossed in garlic knots with each slice. The biggest difference between Sal’s Pizza and Ian’s Pizza is the dough. Ian’s has more of a bready, crusty style, while Sal’s has a thinner crust with a strong crisp. Sal’s also felt heavier on toppings and bigger on flavor. The Chicken Bacon Ranch slice had a solid sauce and plenty of bacon, while the BBQ Chicken was saucy, loaded with chicken, and packed with flavor. The garlic knots were also a win. Compared to Ian’s breadsticks, Sal’s garlic knots had more garlic butter flavor, more crispness, and more personality. So, which is better: Sal’s or Ian’s? Both are solid East Side Milwaukee pizza spots, but in my opinion, Sal’s Pizza Milwaukee takes the edge with better flavor, more toppings, a thinner crust, and a better grab-and-go slice experience.
