Nódulo no rim pequeno: Acompanhamento ou Cirurgia?

Small Kidney Nodule: Monitoring or Surgery? In this video, we will discuss small kidney nodules. To characterize a kidney nodule as small, its size at its longest axis must be less than 4 cm. It is known that the larger the renal mass, the greater the likelihood of malignancy. In small renal masses, up to 30% of them may have a benign etiology. Faced with this possibility, we face a dilemma: should we continue monitoring or proceed with surgery? Some factors must be considered in this case, such as the patient's age and comorbidities. When we have an older patient with several comorbidities, monitoring is preferred, as interventions can complicate the patient's already weakened health. On the other hand, in younger patients without significant comorbidities, intervention is indicated for this lesion. Treatment modalities range from surgery to remove the nodule to ablative therapies such as cryoablation and radiofrequency ablation. The approach should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Discussing the best therapeutic alternative with your doctor is key to successful treatment in this case. Kidney nodules require significant medical attention. Want to learn more about this topic?
