Manic Monday — But Not As You Know It | A Yorkshire Folk Fairytale

“Manic Monday” — reimagined as a Yorkshire folk fairytale. This is probably the most unusual cover Val and I have made. Rather than recreate the bright pop sound of The Bangles, we followed the beautiful Celtic interpretation arranged by Kate Rusby and Damien O’Kane. The video moves constantly between two worlds: the ordinary rush of the working day and the dream Val is desperate to return to — a vivid Yorkshire landscape of blossom, green fields, and oversaturated fairytale colour. Our version follows the shorter folk arrangement, without the bridge heard in The Bangles’ recording. The result is gentler, stranger and more dreamlike — but still unmistakably “Manic Monday.” With heartfelt thanks to Kate Rusby for the stunning arrangement that inspired us, to The Bangles for making the song unforgettable, and of course to Prince, who wrote it.
