“When I Was a Boy” has always felt deeply personal to me. Jeff Lynne’s beautiful song is about the dreams we carry from childhood — the hopes that shape us, stay with us and quietly follow us throughout our lives. My own dream was always to become a musician and songwriter. During the 1980s, alongside my day job, I became a working musician and writer. I performed, wrote songs and later had songs published. Music was never simply a childhood fantasy — it became a genuine and lasting part of my life. In this video, Val and I perform our cover together, singing and playing keyboards and guitars. The final scenes take that lifelong dream one step further, imagining the two of us performing together on the kind of grand stage I once pictured as a boy. Perhaps our dreams do not always happen exactly as we imagined them — but sometimes they stay with us, grow with us and become part of who we are.
