Painter and artist residing in Paris, France. After graduating from the Faculty of Letters, Doshisha University, she moved to France. In 1980, she exhibited at the Paris International Biennale. She signed a contract with the long-established Maeght Gallery, which handles Matisse, Miró, Giacometti, and others. She holds solo exhibitions mainly in Europe, America, and Japan. While working as a painter in Paris in the 1980s and 90s, she became close friends with writers Magritte Duras and Jacques Derrita, and film director Wim Wenders. In 1993, she became the youngest artist ever to hold solo exhibitions at the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo and the National Museum of Art, Osaka. In 2006, she received the French Order of Arts and Letters (Chevalier).
