The river Nila (Bharatapuzha) flows along the village's southern border. The village derives its name from the ancient Sri Killikkurussi Mahadeva Kshetram, a renowned Lord Shiva temple believed to have been founded by the sage Sree Suka Brahma Hrishi. Lakkidi is the birthplace of the celebrated Malayalam satire poet and founder of the Ottamthullal art form, Kunchan Nambiar (Rama Panivada). His birthplace, Kalakkathu Bhavanam, has been converted into a cultural center managed by the Department of Culture of the Kerala State Government. Additionally, there is a library dedicated to his memory called the Kunchan Smaraka Vayanasala (Kunchan Memorial Library). The village was also home to the legendary Koodiyattam and Chakyar Koothu artist, Natyashasthra scholar, and noted authority on Abhinaya (acting), Padma Shri Guru Mani Madhava Chakyar. His residence is close to the Killikkurussi Mahadeva temple. Another prominent figure from the village is Guru Kelu Nair, one of Chakyar’s notable disciples. Renowned Sanskrit scholar Koppattu Achutha Pothuval also resided near the temple. The village boasts the Sree Sankara Oriental High School, formerly known as Balakollasini Samskritha Pathasala, the oldest high school in the area, dedicated to educating the underprivileged. The school was founded by the esteemed Sanskrit scholar and teacher, Panditaratnam Pazhedathu Sankaran Nampoothiripad. It is one of the six schools in Kerala where Sanskrit is the major language. Near the Sri Killikkurussi Mahadeva Temple is a sacred temple pond (Ambalakkulam) where pilgrims and visitors often bathe.
