Turning OSB Board on the Lathe | Unusual Woodturning Challenge

Welcome back to the Mayuko Woodturning YouTube channel. In this video, I try something quite unusual: turning an OSB (Oriented Strand Board) board on a woodturning machine. OSB is a type of particle board generally used for building construction, not for turning. That's why this project presents a unique challenge. The process isn't as easy as turning regular solid wood. OSB consists of wood chips compressed with glue, making it very brittle and prone to falling apart when turned on a lathe. Furthermore, this board has many small voids that are difficult to patch, as the sawdust and bits easily fall out. I tried various methods to strengthen the structure and fill the gaps by patching with wood glue mixed with OSB sawdust, but I still had to be very careful not to break it during the process. My ultimate goal was to prove that even construction materials like OSB can be used to create woodturning art—with the right approach and technique, of course. Watch the entire process to see the final result, and whether this experiment was a success or a complete failure. Hopefully, this video can inspire those of you who like to try new things in the world of woodworking! 📌 Don't forget to like, share, and subscribe for more woodturning content, both traditional and unusual like this one.
